FACEBOOK LIVE BROADCASTMarketing, 19/01/16
Hey Guys, it’s Malisa here from Small Business Performance Coaching
Today I want us to have a look at an awesome feature of Facebook called Facebook Live or Facebook Livestream.
We will go through, exactly what facebook live stream is, how to set it up, what are the best practices when using facebook livestream, why you should use it and I will even give you some examples on how you can integrate it into your business.
So, what is Facebook live stream?
Well, you’ve heard of snapchat, you’ve heard of periscope; facebook live allows you to connect with your fans, friends and followers by sharing a LIVE real time video stream of what you’re doing or what you’re wanting to share.
You may have heard of facebook live stream in the past, and that it was only available for celebrities and select public figures, well the good news is, it’s now been rolled out so everyone can benefit from using Facebook Live Stream.
This is a game changer for any business that uses facebook for brand promotion!
You’re probably wondering how you set it up?
It’s actually really simple, and in most cases, you will probably already have access to it on your personal profile!
Let’s go through the process for connecting live steam to your business page, then I’ll show you how you can do it on your personal page.
On your mobile, it’s super simple, this is where I would normally update my status, see where I’ve highlighted the button for share and record live video – that’s it!
Next you will want to write a quick description in the status update – this becomes the title of your video and will be saved with the video in the newsfeed and will also go out as notification to all your followers that you are going live with a video on this topic.
You have ultimate control over your audience, and can select just friends or public, or if you have it set up, specific groups of people – depending on your privacy settings.
Once you’ve made all these important decisions – Click GO LIVE and the magic will begin!
During the broadcast, you’ll see the number of live viewers, which friends are tuning in and comments in real time. While people are watching you, invite those viewers to tap the Subscribe button. This way, they’ll get notified the next time you’re live.
After you end your live broadcast, it will be saved on your timeline like any other video you upload.
If you don’t already have the Follower option enabled on your personal profile, I recommend enabling it. Doing so will allow you to reach a much wider audience, as anyone on Facebook can choose to follow your public updates.
To enable the Follow feature, go to your settings and click Followers in the left column. Then, next to Who Can Follow Me, select Everybody .Now, any of your friends or followers can subscribe and see when you go live.
Keep in mind, if your previous post was public and you wish to share your next post with friends only, you’ll need to select that option.
Now that you’re up to speed on how to use live stream, it’s probably a good idea that we go through some best practices, so you can make the most of your live streaming and keep people wanting to come back for more.
Some of these may seem like common sense, so think of it like a check list if you will
- Make sure you start to let people know ahead of time through statuses that you’re planning a live broadcast… it will help build anticipatition and will let people know so they can plan!
- Don’t be afraid to ask your viewers to subscribe to receive notifications when you go live. You can do this by getting them to click the subscribe button on the video
- Make sure your description is interesting, catchy and informative – this will help get people’s attention and make them actually want to stop what they are doing and watch you live
- Make sure you’re on wifi… or that you have strong reception where you are. No one will stick around if your connection is dodgy.. it’s frustrating to watch
- Interract with your fans and followers that are watching you live…. You can see on the screen who is logging on to watch… call them out, use their name ask them to ask you questions… people love interaction
- Play around with the amount of time that you go live for, to see what works best for engagement of your followers. Obviously the longer you broadcast for, the more likely people are to share and then the more people that will log in… however, broadcasting for too long and being ill prepared or sharing un interesting content can work in the opposite way!
- Lastly, make sure you’re broadcasting regularly – you want to get people excited about looking forward to your broadcasts and being able to interact with you.
- Oh… and a bit of a bonus… don’t forget to end your broadcast with some sort of call to action!
Now you’re probably thinking at this point it sounds like just another piece of social media…. So why should you use it when you’re already doing everything else?
I’m sure you’re already aware of the power of facebook, I don’t think I need to go over that…. But look at it this way… doesn’t it make sense live streaming on a platform that all of your fans are already following you on, rather than trying to build a following on a different/new platform… it makes it easier for them to access your content quickly.
Another benefit of using facebook live stream over periscope or snapchat or one of the others available, is that the content remains available even after you are no longer broadcasting live. Yep, it stays on your newsfeed – permanently available for viewing and for sharing by others!
Another awesome point that I should probably mention here is that you can edit the post after the fact – meaning you can change the thumb nail of the video, you can choose the category of the video – whether its business, fun, life etc, you can add a call to action and select a call to action button where people can click straight through to a URL of your choice… and of course you can then use your live feed video (if it’s been popular) as a facebook ad to increase views or to help build a custom audience.
Which brings me to another sneaky tip – you can also repurpose your live stream video by embedding it directly from facebook into a web page or blog… this will help increase video views and hopefully subscribers to future live broadcasts even further!
If you’re not excited about Facebook Live Stream yet, What’s wrong with you? No, seriously… let’s have a quick look at some ways that you can use Live Stream within your business!
Q&As. Pick a day and time and let your friends and followers know you’ll be on live to answer their questions. Do this monthly, weekly or regularly, when you you’re getting lots of inquiries.
To get even more out of it, plan ahead. Create an event and encourage people to ask questions in advance, so you know what to address in your live stream. This will give you tremendous material for future content.
You can write blog posts or video tutorials as answers to your questions, too. Q&As are also excellent for market research.
How-Tos. Find something that pertains to your expertise and relates to your business. Then show your audience how to do it with simple steps.
Product demos. Just like with how-tos, do live product demos for your friends and followers. Unbox products that you use for your business or simply share how you use them. Alternatively, show new uses for your own products. As with all video, you want to be having fun as you do demos, so your audience has fun too.
Breaking news. Compile sources that inform you when there’s breaking news in your industry. Then when something happens within your area of expertise, you can go live immediately and share it with your audience.
Report news and also add your own thoughts and opinions, so people know what to do with that information. Doing videos like these helps you establish your expertise in your field.
So there you have it guys… that is Facebook Live Stream in a nutshell.
I urge you to give Facebook Live stream a go, because video is super strong right now you will find that your live broadcasts are more likely to get higher organic reach than other types of content… so it’s definitely worth adding it to your marketing plan asap!
